Penelope – Parco Archeologico – Rome
(Sept 19 – Juan. 12, 2025)
The Colosseum Archaeological Park promotes the exhibition Penelope , curated by Alessandra Sarchi and Claudio Franzoni, organized by Electa.
Opened in the spaces of the Farnese Aviaries and the Temple of Romulus , the exhibition – through approximately fifty works – retraces the myth and fortune of the figure of Penelope which has come down to us, from the remote age in which the Homeric poems date back, through two equally powerful traditions: the literary one and the one linked to visual representation. Her character has spanned the millennia and populated our imagination, linking it to a normative ideal of a woman , faithful to her husband Ulysses and wise guardian of her palace-home in Ithaca, obedient even to her son Telemachus, who was just twenty years old. But what makes her fascinating are her determination, her resistance and her ability to dream.

Botero at Palazzo Bonaparte, Rome
(September 17, 2024 – January 19, 2025)

Through medium and large-sized works with three-dimensional effects and often bright colours to represent the sumptuous roundness of the artist’s feminine universe, it is anything but synonymous with sensuality or naive aesthetics ; what Bolero represents is not reality in itself, but covered in a patina of hyper-realist ambiguity.

Guercino. L’era Ludovisi, Roma
31 October 2024-26 Jan. 2025
The Scuderie del Quirinale present “Guercino. The Ludovisi Era in Rome”, a new major exhibition, from 31 October 2024 to 26 January 2025, curated by Raffaella Morselli and Caterina Volpi (Sapienza, University of Rome). A project founded on the authority of a rigorous scientific system, organized by the Scuderie del Quirinale in collaboration with the National Roman Museum, the Uffizi Galleries and the Capitoline Museums and which, thanks to the support of the most prestigious museums in the world, qualifies as an undertaking of vast international scope.
With 122 works from 68 national and international museums and collections, the exhibition offers a compelling reconstruction of the Roman cultural and political scene of the time, or rather the relationship between art and power, through the privileged lens of the patronage partnership that linked Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, better known as Guercino, and the Bolognese Ludovisi dynasty, during the brief but crucial pontificate of Pope Gregory XV (1621-1623), born Alessandro Ludovisi; a pontificate whose fourth centenary celebrations have just concluded. In parallel, the very important affirmation of the powerful Cardinal nephew, Ludovico Ludovisi, in the decisive role that Scipione Borghese had under Paul V is highlighted.
At the heart of this splendor, the art of the young Guercino stands out on display, the artist favored by Pope Ludovisi and summoned by him to Rome as soon as he ascended to the papal throne. An art made of explosions of color, dizzying compositional dynamism, suggestive light effects; an innovative, theatrical and engaging figurative formula, capable of captivating the observer, leading him into a world populated by gods and saints, both courtly and very human at the same time.
